Wine Tasting with Crush Distributors: Friday, March 21, 2014

2013 "The Lemongrass" White Blend - Stellanbosch, South Africa                $14

A refreshing blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chenin Blanc from the Mooiplaas Wine Estate and nature preserve in South Africa. The Roos Family has farmed this land for the past 51 years, originally purchased by Nicolaas in 1963, both of his sons joined the business in the early 1980's and serve as vineyard manager (Tielman) and winemaker (Louis), creating a true family winery. Crisp with notes of citrus and lemongrass which provides this wine its name.

2010 Skylark Alondra Chardonnay - Mendocino, California                             $17

When the first vintage was made in 2005, un-oaked California chardonnay certainly went against the grain. John Lancaster and Robert Perkins(they met while working at Boulevard Restaurant), wanted the fruit to be the star and they have been successful in their goal. Notes of green apple, lemon custard and tropical fruit are joined with a balanced acidity creating an elegant chardonnay.

2013 Drouet Freres Rose - Loire Valley, France                                                     $13

A brand new wine to the Crush Portfolio, we have loved their Sauvignon Blanc for years! This rose is made from 100% Cabernet Franc from vineyards south of Angers. A lovely pink color featuring flavors of raspberry balanced with a touch of minerality makes us yearn for spring with every sip.

2011 Baileyana "Firepeak" Pinot Noir - Edna Valley, California                      $21

To say the Nivens Family is pioneers in the Edna Valley may be an understatement. In the 1970's Jack planted Paragon Vineyard, following her husband's lead. Catherine Niven planted a few acres near the family home and this project became the Baileyana Winery. Twenty years later her two sons planted a new vineyard at the end of a chain of extinct volvanoes known as the Seven Sisters, they named it Firepeak. Dark cherry, chocolate, raspberry and anise are followed by a slight smokiness on the finish creating a fruit forward and complex wine. *SIP Certified
